Choose the format your destination expects
Web maps commonly use decimal degrees, while GPS records and field notes may use degrees-minutes-seconds or degrees and decimal minutes. UTM expresses positions in meter-based grid coordinates within a zone.
Keep the hemisphere signs intact
South and west coordinates require either negative decimal values or the correct hemisphere letter. Losing that sign can move a point to the opposite side of the world.
